Erysipelas

What is Erysipelas?

Erysipelas is a bacterial infection affecting the most superficial layers of the skin. It usually affects infants and the elderly. However, it but can affect any age group.

What Causes Erysipelas?

Erysipelas is caused by the bacteria called Streptococcus pyogenes.

Yes. Antibiotics will kill the bacteria that causes erysipelas. Penicillin and erythromycin are often prescribed.
